Vietnam in February: Weather, Places to Go & Festivals

February is one of the most popular months to visit Vietnam. The cold winter of the north begins to lift, central Vietnam enjoys warm and dry weather, and the south remains hot and sunny. It is also the month most frequently associated with Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, offering travellers a rare window into the nation's most sacred cultural celebrations.

The Spring Climate and Regional Guide

In Northern Vietnam, February brings a transition from winter to spring. Temperatures rise to a comfortable 17°C to 22°C, though misty mornings and light drizzle are still common. Sapa begins to warm up, and wild peach and plum trees burst into white and pink blossoms across the highlands. Central Vietnam experiences excellent weather in February. The rains are gone, and temperatures rise to 22°C - 26°C. Cities like Hue and Hoi An are at their most beautiful, with mild humidity and ample sunshine. Southern Vietnam continues its run of perfect dry-season weather. Temperatures hover between 27°C and 33°C, with virtually no rainfall. Coastal resorts in Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, and Con Dao offer ideal beach conditions.

Experiencing Tet: Lunar New Year in Vietnam

Tet is the core of Vietnamese culture. While travelling during the actual 3-4 days of Tet requires careful planning (as transport is booked out and many shops close), it is a magical time to witness traditions. Streets are filled with yellow apricot blossoms, red lanterns, and families preparing traditional foods like banh chung (sticky rice cakes).
